ABOUT US
CCAH...

A non-profit organization, was established in 1983 by a
small group of professionals and parents. They were
dedicated to reduce the incidence of adolescent pregnancy
in the small rural county of Caldwell, North Carolina. At that
time, Caldwell County ranked number 4 out of 100 counties
for the most teen pregnancies. Number 1 represented the
most and 100 represented the least. In 2003, the county was
ranked number 67 out of 100, a remarkable improvement!
Currently, our ranking
is number 46.

The board of directors is made up of volunteers who are
active participants in the Council's activities. CCAH and its
staff are funded through a variety of sources. Sources
include: a State Grant by the N.C. Department of Health and
Human Services/Women's Health Branch, Caldwell County,
United Way of Caldwell County, Caldwell County Schools,
Foundations, Civic Clubs, Churches, and Individuals.

The Caldwell Council on Adolescent Health is dedicated in
the fight to reduce teen pregnancy. The Council's vision is
to promote stronger communities by empowering Caldwell
County adolescents to make healthier life choices.
About Us
"Life as a
teenager is full
of positives,
don't let a
pregnancy test
be one of them!"
"THANK YOUS" MEAN SO MUCH

In the past 5 years, our Health Educators have received nearly
450 thank you letters from students. Many of these letters are from teens
that may have experienced negative sexual encounters such as pregnancy,
disease, abuse or rape. Others are simply thanking us for
taking the time to educate them on these issues.

While each letter and kind word is equally important, here are just
a few exerts from
9th grade students in Caldwell County:

"I think you not only convinced me, but all the other kids in the class that we don't want babies.
You did a lot of good in my life and other kids lives too. Thank you!"

"Before you came and talked to our class, I really didn't see the big harm in sex. But as we went
through the week, I have learned that some situations can be a life or death situation."

"Thanks for teaching us about what would happen if we had sex and got all kinds of stuff.
Now before I marry someone, we are going to be tested!"

"I learned we don't need babies at our age and we definitely don't need STD's.
I think you coming to talk to the class will affect the choices we make in our lives."

"I hope you make a lot more teens think about having sex or doing it again like you made me."

"Why don't we start sex-ed earlier? This is the first type of sexual education I've had. If they
want to drop the teen pregnancy rate and stuff why don't schools start educating kids before
they start having sex and getting pregnant?"

"What a wonderful class you taught us. I have learned so much more than I knew. Your class
really opened my eyes to the world that I was going to go in."

"I love you very much and appreciate everything you have done to make sure we are safe from
the harmful things in this world. It is nice to know there is someone out there who cares."
